Here is a summary of important dates for the 2008 Muscle Shoals Mayor and City Council elections:
July 1, 2008 First day for a candidate to qualify to run for Mayor and City Council places 1 -5. There is a $50.00 qualifying fee and all candidates must be qualified electors of the state and a resident of Muscle Shoals 90 days prior to the election. All candidates qualify at the City Clerk's Office in City Hall, 2010 E. Avalon Avenue. Qualifying hours are from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. July 4th is a holiday and offices are closed.
July 15, 2008 Last day for candidates to qualify. Qualifying ends at 5:00 p.m. on this date.
July 22, 2008 First day for a qualifying voter to vote absentee. Applications are available at the City Clerk's Office in City Hall during normal business hours.
August 15, 2008 Last day a resident desiring to vote in the August 26th election can register to vote. You must be a resident of Muscle Shoals 30 days prior to the date of the election and 18 years of age to vote. Contact the Colbert County Board of Registrars at 386-8535, for more information. Their offices are located in the Colbert County Courthouse in Tuscumbia.
August 21, 2008 Last day to apply for a regular absentee ballot.
August 25, 2008 Last day for a voter to return an absentee ballot by hand-delivery (5:00 pm.).
Emergency medical absentee ballots may be returned by the designee no
later than 12:00 noon on the day of the election.
August 26, 2008 Election day. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the following locations:
First Southern Church, S. Wilson Dam Road
Fire Station #1 annex, 1002 E. Avalon Avenue
Woodward Avenue Baptist Church Activities Center (Previously held at Southgate Mall)
Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Hall Pavilion (Previously held at Webster School)
Grace Life Church (Formerly First Baptist Church), E. Avalon Avenue
October 7, 2008 Runoff Election day. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the following locations:

Woodward Avenue Baptist Church Activities Center (Previously held at Southgate Mall)

Voter identification is required for all voters. This calender is intended to provide helpful information to assist voters and prospective candidates in the election process.
