Muscle Shoals Music: Past and Present
A special, one-time event – Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010
Muscle Shoals, Ala. A special event, Muscle Shoals Music: Past and Present will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Muscle Shoals High School, 1900 Avalon Avenue, Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The concert is Free and will allow Shoals area residents an opportunity to hear Muscle Shoals music from the past and some that is being recorded and played today. An amazing lineup of musicians include: The Decoys, Russell Smith (formerly with the Amazing Rhythm Aces), Lenny LeBlanc, Jason Isbell and the 400-Unit, the Civil Wars, Dylan LeBlanc and Mike Farris. Seating inside the auditorium is limited to approximately 1,000.
At 5:00 p.m. on that same day, the city will unveil a historic marker on the grounds of City Hall as a part of the state’s ‘Year of Small Towns and Downtowns’ promotion. This dedication of the new marker by the Mayor and Council members will be the “kick-off” event for an evening of education and entertainment. At 5:30 p.m. a special Muscle Shoals Music history program will be provided in the city hall auditorium by Shoals area music historian Terry Pace. The concert will follow at 7:30 p.m. and will last about three hours. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Muscle Shoals Mayor David Bradford said, “We are excited to bring this new, one-time event to residents of the Shoals area. We wanted to have a celebration of our heritage on the same day that we unveiled the historic marker for the city. The members of the council and I feel that having the history program and then the musical entertainment will be a great way to celebrate our famous Muscle Shoals music history. I encourage everyone to come out early to get a seat at both the history program and the concert.”
