Services

The Muscle Shoals Fire Department provides fire fighting, emergency medical services, rescue and extrication, as well as a variety of other services.

  • Bureau of Fire Prevention
The Bureau of Fire Prevention inspects all businesses, churches, schools
and industrial facilities in the city and jurisdiction annually.  This inspection procedure informs owners and managers of problems which may contribute to the occurrence of fire in their workplace.  This procedure also serves as an excellent public relations tool for the department.  The bureau is also responsible for making determinations of fire cause and origin, fire prevention week programs, the issuance of various permits, and building plan reviews.  The bureau also provides speakers for school and civic meetings as well as information for other groups seeking information on fire related topics. The department has a new mobile classroom where students experience live training in preventing fires as well as surviving a smoke filled atmosphere. The classroom also contains a tornado simulator allowing students to experience a tornado in their home town. The mobile classroom can also be quickly converted to a command and rehab facility as needed.

  • Dive Team
Members of the Muscle Shoals Fire Department participate in the Colbert County Dive Team.  The Dive Team is composed of firefighters from the adjoining cities of Tuscumbia and Sheffield as well as the Colbert County Emergency Management Agency.  The team responds to all emergencies wherever called for rescue and recovery.  All divers are certified to a minimum of Advanced Open Water certification and rescue.

  • Hazardous Materials Response Team
Members of the Muscle Shoals Fire Department participate in the Colbert County Hazardous Materials Response Team.  The team is comprised of members of the Tuscumbia and Sheffield fire departments as well as the Colbert County Emergency Management Agency.  The team responds to any location required to mitigate hazardous materials incidents, confined space rescue and trench and high angle rescue.  All members are trained to a minimum of Haz Mat Technician level.
