BOARD SELECTION PROCESS FOR THE
CITY OF MUSCLE SHOALS

Board vacancies will be announced and posted 60 days prior to the current term expiration date. Anyone desiring consideration for the announced board appointment or reappointment may come by City Hall within 30 days of announcement and complete an application form. Following the 30 day application period, applications will be reviewed by the Mayor and members of the City Council. After review, selected applicants may be interviewed by the Mayor and Council and the appointment made based upon the applicant’s qualifications.

Applicant must reside in the city limits of Muscle Shoals and be a registered voter in the City of Muscle Shoals.

Applicant can have no immediate family members employed under the jurisdiction of the municipal board or to any board for which the Council makes appointments. Family members will be defined as spouse, father, mother, brother, sister, son or daughter.

No person can serve simultaneously on boards, either municipal or boards to which the Council makes appointments. The applicant receiving appointment by the Mayor and/or the City Council to a board must resign their current position immediately.

Applicant may be considered for only one board at a time. For example, if there are board appointments to be made on the Utilities Board and the Electric Board, the applicant must decide which board they want to serve and apply for that board only.

Attendance at board meetings is expected. Excessive absences from regularly scheduled meetings may be a factor in reappointment.
