Benefits

Benefits have been made available to employees by the governing body.  Benefits are administered through the Human Resources Department.  Questions concerning these benefits may be directed to this department.  Following are highlights of some of the benefits offered to City of Muscle Shoals employees.

HEALTH INSURANCE

The City provides an excellent Blue Cross/Blue Shield health and dental insurance plan which also includes vision care.  The health plan is paid for by the city for the employee and his dependents.  New employees hired after January 1, 2009 pay a portion of the family coverage.  The cost for the dental plan is $14.00 per month for family coverage, and $5.00 per month for single coverage.

RETIREMENT PLAN     

The City of Muscle Shoals is a member of the Employees’ Retirement Systems of Alabama(RSA), which operates under the Retirement Systems of Alabama.  An additional voluntary retirement plan is available through the Retirement Systems of Alabama, RSA-1, which is a deferred compensation plan which can be contributed by payroll deduction.

LIFE INSURANCE

The City provides the employees with two types of life insurance.  One is $10,000 whole life coverage, and the other is $20,000 term life insurance.  The term life insurance policy provides spouse and children with $2,000 coverage.  Additional term coverage is available thru payroll deduction at the time of hire and during open enrollment each October.

VACATION AND SICK LEAVE

All employees accrue one day of sick leave per month.  These sick days can be accrued on an unlimited basis.  The employees will gain one week of vacation after being employed for one year, two weeks after two years, three week after five years, and four weeks after ten years.
