The City of Muscle Shoals is supported by numerous departments which include City Clerk's Office, Police Department, Fire Department, Public Works Department, Park and Recreation Department, Cypress Lakes Golf Course, Public Library, and Senior Citizen Center. Each department is unique and important in its role to support the city and its community.
All job opportunities in these departments are filled by the Civil Service Board, excluding all department heads, which are filled by the Mayor and Council. When there is a job opportunity, the notice is posted in all city departments for any interested employee. If there are qualified applicants within the city employment, the board will interview and hire from those applicants. If there are not any city employee applicants, the notice will be advertised in the local newspaper, and applications are provided at the City Clerk's Office, and the board will interview and hire from those applicants.
