Mayor
The City of Muscle Shoals operates under the Mayor-Council form of government. This form of government most closely resembles the private sector with the mayor serving as the Chief Executive Officer and the Council as the Board of Directors. The Mayor and Council are elected at large for four year terms.
The Mayor and City Council members work as a team with the employees of the City of Muscle Shoals to provide the citizens with:

About Mayor Billy Hudson,
Billy has been a resident of Muscle Shoals for fifty-fiveyears. He graduated from Muscle Shoals High School in 1975, and the Universityof North Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned Masters andAdministration degrees.
Billy was elected to the Muscle Shoals City Council by anoverwhelming vote in 1996, serving one term that saw many accomplishments suchas flood abatement, financial stability, aggressive street resurfacing, a newhigh school, improvements in the parks and recreation, library, public safetyassets, and strategic long-range planning.
Billy’s educational career was as a classroom teacher,coach, Assistant Principal, Principal, School Superintendent of Colbert Countyfor ten years, from 2002 – 2012, and then interim Superintendent for two moreyears. As Superintendent, he managed the largest governmental budget in ColbertCounty.
After retiring as Superintendent of Colbert County SchoolSystem, Billy was selected in 2013 by the Muscle Shoals City School Board as aninterim superintendent. During his tenure as interim Superintendent, capitalimprovements were completed.
His late wife, Sherry Cox Hudson passed in 2022 after alengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Sherry graduated from Muscle ShoalsHigh School and UNA and was a teacher for 25 years. Together, they had twosons, Nicholas and Jacob, and two grandchildren, Mackenna and Colin.
Billy has an open-door policy. Fiscal responsibility,sustainable growth, quality of life and essential services are his mainpriorities. He is an active member of Woodward Avenue Baptist Church andassociate member of the Shoals Home Builders Association. Billy supportsexisting business and industry and is recruiting new developments.
